Timezone troubles

I'm from and living in Germany, meaning on a timezone that's plus seven hours to CST. During semester break, free days and weekends this means I'll be up til I drop dead. That can be up to 10 p.m. CST, in extreme cases a bit longer. But on normal semester days with work and university I will be off at around 5 - 6 p.m, when things usually only are about to start going in CFUD. If you plan something plot-wise with me, please consider this.

This also means that English is my second language. I don't want to pull the non-native pity joker here, by no means. I wouldn't have joined the game if I hadn't been trusting my English skills enough. But mistakes do happen, although I really try to avoid them, especially when it is already very late over here. When I slip, it can happen that I notice and then double-comment to correct a grammar mistake. If I don't notice please, PLEASE tell me. It's the only way I learn. Also be prepared to be asked vocabularly or meaning questions now and then. When I'm not by 100% sure what your chara just said to me, I will always ask. Playing here has enhanced my writing practise and vocab a great deal, so I hope those issues get less and less with time.

Thread-dropping

I thread-drop a lot because of the aforementioned timezone troubles and because I also have the attention span of a mayfly. If I don't reply to you, please don't assume I don't want to play with you or am ignoring you - because I'm not. Probably I have too many threads going on. Probably I didn't know how to reply anymore. Just nudge me via the listed ways and I'll apologize profoundly and then continue replying to you.

As I have to leave the scene early so often, I also never have a problem to continue threads at the next day(s). Sometimes when I had time to be online in the mornings it has already happen that you guys were still awake and we just picked it up there. For me a thread that has to be continued never finishes just because the day passed. Just poke me if you want something to be continued, it's usually the only way I get things wrapped up anyway.

Ways to contact me.

Messengers: When I'm online, I'm always logged into Trillian. All relevant user IDs are listed on my player journal's userinfo, [info]chili_das_schaf. You're of course always free to add this one to your friendslist, too.

Email: All my paid account emails (ljnameATlivejournal.com) and my comment notifications go to the same email adress which I check each time I'm online. Just for CFUD I also have a gmail account, crusher.wesleyATgmail.com.

IRC: When I'm playing on CFUD I'm also usually in IRC as Megan, Wes or Jean-François (who can be pinged by Jean or French dude ;) ). I have to emphazise that I completely fail at being in IRC. I log in, say hi and don't pay attention until I get pinged. If you PM me and I'm not answering, I'm never ignoring you. I just turned out the sound, fell asleep, are in the kitchen for a sandwich, play with the cat or do whatever distracted me for the moment. I will get back at you as soon as I see you poked me.

Whenever you think you have something to discuss with me, tell me, ask me, please use those ways, I'll be happy to answer.

Crit

If anything at all is bothering you, please crit away. Either by the ways just listed or by a comment in my crit posts on [info]vegan_megan and [info]just_wes. I always try to comment on [info]cfud_concrit but usually fail, forget it or am too late. That doesn't mean I don't want to have crit. Just that I'm a lazy bastard.

Clique-issues

My charas are the only ones from their canons. In case of Megan and Wes they do have their circles of friends and foes by now, as everyone is wont to do after living in a place full of people for over a year, respective nearly two years. That doesn't mean that this is a finished list. You can always comment on my posts and jump my threads, as long as they are not locked. New people are good!

Fourth-wall breaking

My problem with Megan is that she's actually a completely ordinary but very geeky girl from 2004. She doesn't read manga and doesn't watch anime which already takes a huge load off my chest. But she watches TV, goes to the movies, is online a lot and plays videogames. So the chance is very, very high that she will recognize your chara. I'm incredibly nervous about this and always try to be on the safe side by talking to players. Usually she is rather careful because by now she's used to run into fictional people all the time. But if you feel that Megan has mentioned something she shouldn't have or walking the borderline to it, tell me immediately.

Character preference

Megan has become my mainly played character, simply because she is so easy to play. I can't say anything about Jean-François in that regard yet, I guess his novelty will make me play him more. But in the long run, I think Megan will stay my primary chara.

First reason: their personality. Megan is outgoing, talks a lot, has a lot to say and complain about and gets involved. She has a thousand ways to interact with people, may it be bantering, playing off them, fangirling, bitching.... Wes sadly lacks that because he is a social retard, woe. And Jean-François tends to be unfriendly, condescenting and sometimes plain mean.

Second reason: Language. Wes is a prodigy from a very technological world - I can't allow any mistakes while playing him and have to use a very high register of English, usually with a Thesaurus and a dictionary open right beside his threads. Jean-François is from the 18th century so I have to be very careful to not let his English sound too modern or him mentioning things he doesn't know yet.

Third reason: Canon. Megan has a tiny canon with nearly no information about her. It makes things difficult for me sometimes but of course it also gives me a lot of freedom. Wes comes from a huge canon with a huge fandom and tons of information. I can't guess things, I have to look them up and confirm them. Jean-François' canon is very limited but it's a real historical period he comes from, so there are things I have to look up and confirm, too.

Right now I'm actually quite satisfied with my balancing of Wes and Megan and I hope I will suceed in bringing Jean-François into this, but Megan will stay my favourite.

You'd never know you weren't a native English speaker; you do a fine job of it. Much better than many natives I know!
Thanks!
